- Inside Reliance’s 600-Acre M ...

Mangoes may be India’s most loved fruit, but for business tycoon Mukesh Ambani, they’ve become much more—a symbol of innovation, sustainability, and global reach. What started as a green initiative to meet environmental norms has transformed into the world’s largest mango-growing and exporting operation.
At the heart of this story is the Dhirubhai Ambani Lakhibagh Amrai, a sprawling 600-acre orchard in Jamnagar, Gujarat, home to over 150,000 mango trees and more than 200 varieties of mangoes, from beloved Indian classics like Alphonso and Kesar to globally recognized types such as Tommy Atkins and Kent.
A Greener Beginning with a Sweeter Outcome
Established in 1997, the orchard was originally created to offset the environmental impact of Reliance’s Jamnagar refinery. But instead of conventional solutions, the Ambani-led initiative opted for something greener—and sweeter.
What began as a corporate sustainability project soon evolved into a high-tech agricultural hub, revolutionizing how mangoes are grown and exported.
Reliance implemented cutting-edge farming techniques, including drip irrigation, rainwater harvesting, desalination, and precision fertilization to maintain optimal growing conditions for premium mango cultivation.
From Gujarat to the Globe: Exporting India’s King of Fruits
The orchard now yields around 600 tons of mangoes annually, much of which is exported globally. The operation supports India’s presence in the international fruit market, making Reliance the largest mango exporter in the world.
The initiative is personally overseen by Nita Ambani, reflecting the Ambani family’s deep-rooted love for mangoes, a legacy passed down from Dhirubhai Ambani himself.
Empowering Farmers & Championing Sustainability
Beyond profits and exports, the orchard also plays a key role in community development. Reliance distributes up to 100,000 mango saplings each year to local farmers and provides training in modern, sustainable farming techniques.
This not only improves local incomes but also promotes environmentally responsible agriculture across the region.
Redefining Agribusiness the Ambani Way
Mukesh Ambani’s mango empire stands as a testament to how corporate resources, environmental responsibility, and agricultural expertise can converge. It’s not just about growing fruit—it’s about growing opportunity, innovation, and global influence.
With a blend of tradition, technology, and long-term vision, Ambani has redefined agribusiness in India—and set a global standard for what sustainable farming can look like at scale.
