In a major move to reshape Bengaluru’s civic administration, the Karnataka government will finalise the number of new city corporations and their boundaries within four months. This follows Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s approval of the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024.

The Act paves the way for Bengaluru’s municipal governance to be restructured into multiple corporations, aiming to improve efficiency, local accountability, and urban management in one of India’s fastest-growing cities.

Officials say the clock is ticking, as the government now faces a tight deadline to demarcate the boundaries, define the jurisdictions, and operationalise the new governance framework before early 2025.

Once completed, the restructuring is expected to significantly impact local governance, civic services, and electoral politics across Bengaluru’s expanding metropolitan region.
