A road rage incident in Bengaluru’s CV Raman Nagar on April 21, 2025, escalated into a violent street altercation, leading to serious legal consequences for a senior Indian Air Force officer. Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose has been charged with attempt to murder after an alleged assault on a call centre employee, Vikas Kumar, during the confrontation.

The incident unfolded as Bose and his wife, Squadron Leader Madhumita Bose, were en route to the airport for an emergency visit to Kolkata. According to reports, a heated exchange over traffic quickly turned physical, drawing attention from passersby and going viral on social media.

Complaint and Legal Action

Vikas Kumar filed a formal complaint accusing Wing Commander Bose of attempting to kill him during the altercation. Based on this, the Byappanahalli police registered a case and booked Bose under the following IPC sections:

  • Section 109: Attempt to murder
  • Section 115(2): Voluntarily causing hurt
  • Section 304: Assault connected to theft
  • Section 324: Mischief causing harm
  • Section 352: Intentional insult to provoke breach of peace

Video Evidence & Cross Allegations

Multiple videos from the scene, filmed by bystanders, showed parts of the scuffle. In one clip, Bose is seen allegedly kicking Kumar after he had fallen to the ground. These visuals quickly spread across social platforms, triggering widespread reactions.

In a counterclaim posted online, Wing Commander Bose stated that he was attacked first, claiming that Kumar assaulted him with a key and a stone, and verbally abused him in Kannada. Squadron Leader Madhumita Bose later lodged a complaint supporting this version.

Police Response & Political Commentary

Initially, Vikas Kumar was taken into custody and his statement recorded. However, following a review of CCTV footage and multiple witness accounts, police noted mutual aggression and escalated the investigation against Bose.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah weighed in on the controversy, rejecting Bose’s remarks about Kannadigas as “unfounded and divisive.” He urged the public and authorities to maintain impartiality while ensuring justice is served.
