Bengaluru: Walking on HAL Airport Road is turning into a risky challenge for pedestrians, as poorly maintained footpaths continue to deteriorate. With broken pavers, encroachment by parked two-wheelers, and ongoing construction debris, the walkway conditions are far from safe.
Pedestrians are forced to step onto the busy road due to blocked or damaged sidewalks, putting them in direct conflict with fast-moving traffic. Residents and commuters in the area have raised concerns about the lack of enforcement and civic planning.
Many stretches have pavers that are either loose, missing, or dangerously uneven. In some sections, motorcyclists use footpaths as makeshift parking zones, further shrinking the walking space.
Despite several complaints to local authorities, there has been no noticeable improvement. Urban planners and safety advocates urge the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to take urgent steps to restore the footpaths and implement strict measures to keep them obstruction-free.
As Bengaluru continues to modernize, basic pedestrian infrastructure remains a critical need for safe and inclusive urban mobility.
