- Kerala Faces Unusual Weather P ...

Kochi: With soaring temperatures across Kerala, experts are raising concerns over the increasing risks of heatwaves. Neetha Gopal, Director of the State Meteorological Centre, has urged residents to take necessary precautions as summer intensifies.
Palakkad has already recorded extreme temperatures, similar to last year when both Palakkad and Thrissur experienced unprecedented heat. Gopal highlighted that while states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh are accustomed to extreme weather fluctuations, Kerala’s climate is now shifting in an unusual direction.
Currently, Kerala operates 129 automated weather stations, with plans underway to expand monitoring systems across the country, as part of a broader initiative involving 400 new stations.
The state’s changing weather patterns, marked by extreme rainfall and prolonged droughts, are significantly impacting agriculture. Recognizing the urgency of climate monitoring, the Central Government is implementing measures to enhance forecasting capabilities and mitigate risks associated with these changes.
