The Pune district administration has introduced stricter rules for the distribution of domestic LPG cylinders, making OTP-based delivery mandatory and prohibiting direct collection from gas agencies.

The decision comes after multiple complaints from residents regarding delayed deliveries, overcrowding at agency offices, and irregular supply practices across different areas of the district.

Under the new guidelines, LPG cylinders will now be delivered only through an OTP verification system, ensuring that the cylinders reach the registered customer directly. Authorities have also clearly instructed gas agencies to stop distributing cylinders from godowns, offices, or any other physical locations.

Additionally, manual booking of LPG refills has been discontinued. All bookings must now be made through authorised digital or official channels to maintain transparency and streamline the process.

To improve service efficiency, the administration has set a strict deadline, requiring distributors to complete delivery within 96 hours of a confirmed booking. Gas agencies must also display clear notices informing customers about the new OTP-based delivery system and the delivery timeline.

Customers will receive SMS notifications with booking and delivery details, including the OTP required at the time of cylinder handover.

The administration has also tightened rules to prevent misuse of LPG refills. For households with two cylinders, a minimum waiting period has been enforced before booking the second refill. In urban areas, customers must wait at least 25 days after the previous delivery, while in rural regions, the gap has been extended to 45 days. Industrial zones, including Hinjewadi, are also required to strictly follow the 25-day rule.

Despite these regulatory changes, officials have reassured residents that there is no shortage of LPG in Pune. District authorities, along with oil companies and distributors, have confirmed that supply remains stable and deliveries are continuing as usual.

To maintain fair practices, vigilance teams have been deployed to monitor gas agencies and prevent issues such as hoarding, overpricing, or artificial shortages.

The new measures aim to ensure a more transparent, efficient, and fair LPG distribution system across the district.
