Aishwarya Rai Radiates Royalty at Cannes 2025 in Banarasi Saree and 500-Carat Ruby Jewellery
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made a regal entrance at the 78th Cannes Film Festival on May 21, showcasing Indian elegance at its finest. The Bollywood icon graced the red carpet in a custom ivory Banarasi saree by designer Manish Malhotra, radiating timeless beauty and heritage. But what truly stole the spotlight was the opulent heirloom jewellery she paired it with—featuring a jaw-dropping 500+ carats of Mozambique rubies and uncut diamonds.
Aishwarya arrived for the screening of The History of Sound, turning heads with her luxurious and intricate ensemble. The ivory handwoven Banarasi drape was crafted using the traditional Kadwa brocade technique from Varanasi, known for its labor-intensive process that weaves each motif separately using real silver threads. Her saree was paired with a sheer white tissue dupatta, delicately edged with zardozi embroidery in real gold and silver, draped dramatically to form a red carpet-ready train.
The jewellery, from Manish Malhotra’s high jewellery collection, included a ruby choker with a single diamond pendant, a multi-strand ruby necklace, layered diamond pieces, and striking ruby-diamond rings on both hands. All the pieces were set in 18-carat gold, adding a royal finish to her modern-yet-traditional look.
In true Aishwarya style, her beauty look was equally mesmerizing—winged eyeliner, voluminous lashes, bold red lips, flushed cheeks, and her signature center-parted hair adorned with sindoor.
Designer Manish Malhotra described the look as “a bold assertion” of Indian couture, redefining red carpet norms by presenting the saree as a statement of modern fashion rather than mere nostalgia.
With this appearance, Aishwarya once again affirmed her title as the undisputed queen of Cannes, blending Indian craftsmanship with global glamour.
