Travis Head Etches His Name in WTC History with Record-Breaking Performance Against West Indies

Australian cricketer Travis Head created history by becoming the first player to win 10 Man of the Match awards in the World Test Championship (WTC). Head’s landmark feat came after a match-winning performance in Australia’s 159-run victory over West Indies in the first Test of the series.

In a low-scoring affair where batters struggled on a challenging pitch, Head was a standout performer. He struck 59 in the first innings and followed it up with a crucial 61 in the second, rescuing Australia from 61-4. His composed innings in both efforts helped stabilize Australia’s position and eventually paved the way for a dominant win.

After Head’s dismissal, Beau Webster (63) and Alex Carey (65) further solidified Australia’s total of 310 in the second innings, before the bowlers wrapped up West Indies for just 141.

Head’s twin fifties were not just crucial for the match but also historic — with the 10th Man of the Match award in WTC matches, he now leads the all-time list, surpassing stars like Ben Stokes (5) and Joe Root (5).

In addition, Travis Head has now joined the elite group of players to hit 400+ fours in WTC, becoming the fourth batter to do so after Joe Root (576), Marnus Labuschagne (476), and Steve Smith (443). Head has reached 401 fours in just 83 innings, showcasing his attacking style and consistency.

Reflecting on his performance, Head said:

“I missed out in the WTC final and that was disappointing. But it feels great to come back strong and contribute to the team’s win. It was a tough pitch, but communication and patience were key. Beau (Webster) played a mature knock, and it was a pleasure to build a partnership with him.”

With this win, Australia takes a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, while Travis Head continues to rise as one of the most valuable players in Test cricket today.
