Former India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has married his longtime partner Sophie Shine in a private wedding ceremony held on Saturday, 21 February. The couple, who had been in a relationship for several years, had made their engagement public earlier this year and were widely expected to formalize their union soon after.
Dhawan confirmed his relationship with Sophie in May 2025. The two were first seen together publicly during the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai and later appeared at a media event, where Dhawan hinted at finding happiness again in his personal life.
The wedding comes more than a year after Dhawan’s separation from his estranged wife, Aesha Mukherjee. The couple officially divorced in October 2023, ending their 11-year marriage. Dhawan and Aesha had tied the knot in 2011. Aesha has two daughters from a previous marriage.
During the divorce proceedings, a Delhi court observed that Dhawan had experienced emotional distress and noted that he had been kept away from his son for an extended period. The court recorded that these claims were either not contested or not adequately addressed.
However, Dhawan was not granted permanent custody of his son, Zoravar. Instead, he was given visitation rights and permitted to maintain contact through video calls for a reasonable duration in both India and Australia, where Aesha resides. Dhawan later stated that he had faced challenges in maintaining virtual communication with his son.
The cricketer, who retired from international cricket after an illustrious career as one of India’s most consistent openers, has now embarked on a new chapter in his personal life with Sophie Shine.
