In a fiery statement during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi lashed out at the Centre over the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, and criticized its stance on continuing with the India-Pakistan cricket match in the upcoming 2025 Asia Cup.

Referring to the attack in Baisaran, Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives, Owaisi questioned whether the families of the victims would be asked to “watch the India-Pakistan match” after the government’s military response through Operation Sindoor.

“Does your conscience allow you to ask the families of those killed in Pahalgam to watch that cricket match?” Owaisi asked in Lok Sabha. “We are saying water and blood cannot flow together. But then, will you play a cricket match?”

The Hyderabad MP also raised concerns about the lack of accountability in the security apparatus despite a large presence of armed forces in the region. “With 7.5 lakh army personnel and paramilitary forces deployed, how did four terrorists manage to enter and kill civilians?” he asked.

Owaisi emphasized that removing Article 370 was meant to strengthen security in Jammu & Kashmir, yet incidents like Pahalgam continue to occur. “If the lieutenant governor is responsible, remove him. If the police are at fault, take action. But accountability must be fixed.”

Asia Cup 2025 and Political Reactions

His remarks came shortly after the Asian Cricket Council confirmed that the 2025 Men’s Asia Cup will be held in the UAE from September 9 to 28, featuring India and Pakistan in Group A alongside UAE and Oman.

Reacting to Owaisi’s comments, RLD MP Dr Rajkumar Sangwan said the Indian cricket team would deliver a strong response on the field. “Just like our army has responded to terrorism, our cricket team will give a fitting reply if the match is played,” he told ANI.

The debate was held alongside a broader discussion on Operation Sindoor and India’s response to the recent terror attacks, which was initiated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
