Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has shared a deeply personal memory of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, revealing the compassionate and caring side of India’s leader that often remains unseen in the public eye.
In a video posted on social media under the hashtag #MyModiStory, Sitharaman recalled what happened after she delivered her first-ever Union Budget speech. While the day was historic for her professionally, what she remembers most vividly is the Prime Minister’s concern for her well-being.
“I had barely reached home when my phone rang. It was the Prime Minister. His first words were filled with genuine worry: ‘Why didn’t you take care of yourself?’ Before I could respond, he had already acted,” she said.
According to Sitharaman, Modi immediately dispatched his personal doctor to her residence, asking him to run all necessary medical checks to ensure she was doing fine.
What touched her even more was that this concern did not fade with time. “Even today, every now and then, he asks me: ‘Are you looking after yourself? How are you keeping?’ That kind of compassion from someone who leads a nation is truly extraordinary,” she added.
Sitharaman reflected that while most people see Modi as a firm, resolute, and determined leader, she has personally witnessed his tender and humane side as well. “That combination of strength and compassion is what makes him different,” she remarked.
The revelation comes as Modi’s birthday approaches, which will be marked with #SevaPakhwada2025, a fortnight dedicated to service initiatives across the country. Sitharaman’s story, however, goes beyond celebration, offering a rare glimpse into the personal side of leadership and the Prime Minister’s enduring care for his colleagues.
