Mumbai on High Alert as 4.96m Tide Approaches; BMC Warns Residents to Stay Away From Seashore

Mumbai is bracing for exceptionally high tides over the next four days, as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued an advisory urging residents to avoid visiting the seafront from December 4 to 7. A maximum tide height of 4.96 metres is expected in the Arabian Sea during this period.

According to civic authorities, tide levels will exceed 4 metres through the weekend, with the highest tide of 4.96 metres forecast at 11:52 PM on Thursday.

The BMC has also appealed for extra caution on December 6, the death anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, when thousands of people gather near Chaitya Bhoomi at Dadar’s seafront.

“Visitors are advised to stay alert and avoid venturing close to the shore,” the civic body said.

Crowd Expected for Ambedkar Jayanti Observance

Chaitya Bhoomi, where Dr. Ambedkar’s last rites were performed in 1956, traditionally witnesses very large crowds on December 6. Authorities fear that the high tide could pose safety risks to visitors.
