New Delhi: Mohanlal’s action-packed political thriller L2: Empuraan is holding strong at the box office, completing 10 successful days since its release. According to a report by Sacnilk, the film earned ₹3.5 crore on its second Saturday (April 5), with a Malayalam occupancy rate of 27.61%. This brings its total domestic collection across all languages to ₹94.65 crore.

Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, L2: Empuraan is the highly anticipated second instalment of the Lucifer trilogy, which began with the blockbuster Lucifer in 2019. The film features a star-studded ensemble including Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Abhimanyu Singh, Eriq Ebouaney, Jerome Flynn, and Suraj Venjaramoodu in key roles.

With a nationwide release strategy, the film hit theatres in five languages—Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi—aiming to connect with a pan-Indian audience.

Speaking ahead of the release, director Prithviraj Sukumaran stressed the importance of realism and authenticity in storytelling. “For L2: Empuraan, I wanted every detail to feel real and believable, no matter how brief the screen time. We carefully scouted locations, obtained permissions, and travelled globally to capture the vision exactly as imagined,” he said.

Despite some mixed reviews, the film has been a box office success. In its review, NDTV rated the film 2.5 out of 5 stars. Critic Saibal Chatterjee wrote, “L2: Empuraan traverses the globe as Mohanlal’s Stephen Nedumpally—also known as Kureishi Ab’raam—commands the screen with a powerful presence. He is the Empuraan of the title, a morally ambiguous figure who dominates every scene.”

Produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Gokulam Gopalan, and Subaskaran under the banners of Aashirvad Cinemas, Sree Gokulam Movies, and Lyca Productions, L2: Empuraan was released on March 27 and continues to attract large audiences in theatres.
