The India vs Pakistan cricket rivalry has once again spilled off the field into a war of words, this time involving former Pakistan skipper Mohammad Yousuf.
During a live broadcast on Samaa TV, Yousuf shockingly referred to India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav using a derogatory slur, calling him “Suar-kumar Yadav” (Pig). The anchor immediately interrupted to correct him, clarifying the correct pronunciation of the Indian cricketer’s name. However, Yousuf doubled down and repeated the insult, further fuelling outrage.
Yousuf went on to accuse India of manipulating umpires and referees to secure victories, adding, “India should be ashamed of its shenanigans. There is a limit to everything.”
The controversy erupted shortly after India’s nail-biting win over Pakistan, where Suryakumar played a captain’s knock, anchoring India’s tense chase of 128 runs. The already politically charged atmosphere between the two nations — worsened by a recent terror attack and strained diplomatic ties — has only amplified the backlash to Yousuf’s remarks.
This is not the first time Yousuf has been at the centre of heated debates. Back in 2016, he clashed with former PCB chief Ramiz Raja during a live TV discussion on Mohammad Amir’s return after the spot-fixing scandal, resulting in a fiery exchange that turned personal.
Yousuf’s latest outburst, however, has struck a particularly raw nerve with Indian cricket fans, many of whom are demanding an apology and action from cricket authorities over his insulting comments.
