MK Stalin Condemns Social Media Rumours Amid Karur Stampede Tragedy
The Karur stampede in Tamil Nadu during actor-turned-politician Vijay’s rally has claimed 41 lives, sending shockwaves across the nation. Among the deceased were 18 women, 13 men, and 10 children, highlighting the scale of the tragedy.
In the aftermath, Chief Minister MK Stalin released a video message, strongly condemning the spread of false news and divisive content on social media. Calling it “deeply painful and irresponsible,” Stalin appealed to people to refrain from sharing misinformation at a time of grief.
The Chief Minister also stressed that political parties and public organizations must ensure greater responsibility when organizing mass gatherings. He assured that once the Judicial Commission submits its report, discussions will be held to frame rules and guidelines to prevent such tragedies in the future.
On Sunday, Stalin announced compensation of ₹10 lakh each to the families of the deceased and ₹1 lakh to those injured and undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), convened an emergency meeting with senior leaders to address the aftermath of the tragedy. Overcrowding and chaotic crowd management were cited as the primary causes of the stampede.
