New Delhi: A massive fire broke out on Saturday afternoon at Brahmaputra Apartments, a residential complex allotted to Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament in Delhi’s BD Marg area. Thick black smoke was seen billowing from the building before the flames were brought under control by fire department officials.
According to officials, the Delhi Fire Service received a distress call at 1:20 pm, following which six fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the scene. The blaze was brought under control within a short span, and no casualties have been reported so far.
Authorities are yet to determine the exact cause of the fire, and an investigation has been initiated.
However, several residents alleged lapses in the fire safety system. Eyewitnesses told NDTV that the fire hydrant system was not functional and that there was no water in the tank or pipelines at the time of the incident.
“We checked the fire extinguishing facility after spotting the fire, but there was no water. The fire hydrant was not working,” one resident claimed.
The Brahmaputra Apartments, located on Bishambhar Das Marg (BD Marg), is a prominent government housing complex allotted to Members of the Rajya Sabha.
The Delhi Fire Service has confirmed that the situation is now under control, and further inspection is underway to assess the extent of damage and compliance with safety standards at the residential complex.
