A tragic mass shooting unfolded at 324 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan on Monday, leaving at least five people dead, including a police officer and the suspected gunman. The high-rise building, home to major tenants like Blackstone and the NFL, was the scene of a harrowing midday attack.

The NYPD confirmed that the shooter was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the 33rd floor. He had reportedly entered the skyscraper wearing a bulletproof vest and armed with a high-powered assault rifle.

Authorities said the shooter opened fire shortly after entering, killing four individuals—including a police officer assigned to a paid private detail—and injuring several others. Witnesses on the ground floor described the sound of rapid gunfire resembling “a barrage of shots” from a high-capacity weapon.

A photo circulating online shows the suspect walking across the entry plaza carrying the rifle, moments before the shooting began.

Two individuals, believed to be protesters unrelated to the incident, were also arrested outside the building around the same time.

The NYPD issued an alert urging the public to avoid East 52nd Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue as emergency personnel continue to secure the area. Police emphasized that the shooter acted alone and the situation is now contained.

The identity of the gunman has not been disclosed, and investigations are ongoing. Officials say the number of casualties may rise as they continue to assess the aftermath inside the building.
