Bengaluru: Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1 continues its sensational run at the global box office, emerging as one of the biggest Indian hits of 2025. The Kannada period action-drama has officially crossed the ₹450-crore mark worldwide within just seven days of release, outperforming blockbuster titles like Brahmastra Part One and 3 Idiots.

Kantara Chapter 1 Box Office Performance

According to industry estimates, the film earned around ₹25 crore net on Wednesday, bringing its domestic total to ₹316 crore net (₹379 crore gross) by the end of day seven.

The film’s Hindi version alone has crossed ₹100 crore net, followed closely by the Kannada version at ₹99 crore. The Telugu dub continues to perform strongly with ₹60 crore net, while the Tamil and Malayalam versions have each contributed over ₹20 crore.

With this, Kantara Chapter 1 has solidified its status as a true pan-India phenomenon — one that resonates across languages and regions.

Overseas and Worldwide Collection

Internationally, the film has collected over $8 million (₹66 crore), with steady holds across the Middle East, North America, and Europe. Despite daily global earnings now dipping below $1 million, trade experts believe the movie has enough momentum to cross ₹500 crore worldwide by its second weekend.

As of now, Kantara Chapter 1 stands at ₹451 crore gross globally, making it one of the top-grossing Indian films of the year.

Kantara Surpasses Brahmastra and 3 Idiots

In a remarkable feat, Kantara Chapter 1 has surpassed the lifetime global collections of Brahmastra Part One (₹431 crore) and 3 Idiots (₹450 crore) — both benchmark films in Indian cinema history.

With this, Rishab Shetty’s film has climbed higher in the list of highest-grossing Indian films of all time, and industry watchers are now eyeing whether it can make a run toward the ₹1,000-crore club — a milestone achieved by only a handful of Indian films.

About the Film

Written, directed, and headlined by Rishab Shetty, Kantara: Chapter 1 also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram in pivotal roles.

Serving as a prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara, the film explores events set a thousand years earlier, delving deeper into the mythological and spiritual roots of its world. Following the massive success of Chapter 1, Kantara Chapter 2 has already been announced, completing what Shetty envisions as a mythic trilogy rooted in Indian folklore and divinity.
