Kerala: As heavy rains and stormy winds continue to lash various parts of Kerala, the Kozhikode district administration has issued an immediate suspension of all quarrying activities as a precautionary measure. The ban, announced late Friday, comes amid concerns over landslides and soil erosion triggered by intense and persistent rainfall.
In the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram, strong winds have wreaked havoc, damaging rooftops, uprooting trees, and disrupting traffic and electricity supply in several areas. Emergency response teams have been deployed to clear debris and restore essential services.
Authorities across the state have warned residents, especially in hilly regions, to remain vigilant as weather conditions are expected to remain severe over the weekend. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts in multiple districts, forecasting continued rainfall and gusty winds.
The state disaster management authorities are monitoring the situation closely, urging people to avoid unnecessary travel and to stay away from water bodies, coastal areas, and landslide-prone zones.
Further updates will be issued as the situation develops.
