Fedoseev Maintains Top Spot, Praggnanandhaa Rises, Chithambaram Falls in Poland Blitz 2025
Vladimir Fedoseev delivered a masterclass on the opening day of the Blitz rounds at the 2025 Superbet Rapid & Blitz Poland, part of the Grand Chess Tour. The Russian Grandmaster remained unbeaten through nine intense rounds, reinforcing his dominance following an impeccable Rapid segment. Currently, he leads the overall standings with a commanding 19 points.
Indian chess prodigy R Praggnanandhaa, hailing from Chennai, had a strong showing with four wins and three losses, boosting him to second place overall. His consistent performance keeps him in contention as the tournament heads into the final day of Blitz matches on April 30.
Meanwhile, Aravindh Chithambaram had a rough outing in the Blitz segment, managing only two wins and enduring four defeats. Despite this setback, his earlier results in the Rapid rounds were strong enough to keep him tied for third place with elite players Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Levon Aronian.
The Blitz portion of the tournament features a double round-robin format with a 5+2 time control. Players earn 1 point for a win, 0.5 for a draw, and 0 for a loss. The player with the highest total points at the end of all rounds will be crowned the champion.
The prestigious event is being hosted at the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw, offering a rich cultural backdrop to one of the most competitive chess tournaments on the calendar.
