Bengaluru: Former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman S Somanath has been appointed as the new Chancellor of Chanakya University, a private institution located in Bengaluru. The university is known to be supported by a think tank affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

According to university sources, the formal appointment ceremony for Somanath will take place in the coming weeks. His leadership is expected to help shape the university’s future vision, especially in areas of science, technology, and national development.

Chanakya University, which aims to offer interdisciplinary education rooted in Indian knowledge systems, sees this appointment as a major step forward in its institutional development.

Somanath, who recently concluded his tenure as the ISRO chief, was widely credited for his role in advancing India’s space missions, including the success of the Chandrayaan-3 moon landing project.

His association with the university is being seen as an effort to bridge the gap between scientific excellence and academic growth in the country.
