A late-night clash between two Christmas carol-singing groups disrupted festive celebrations in Alappuzha, Kerala, leaving several people injured, police officials said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 11:30 pm on Christmas Eve in the Nooranad area, when two separate carol groups arrived at the same locality during their rounds. What reportedly began as a minor disagreement soon escalated into a physical altercation involving members of both groups.

According to police, the confrontation quickly spiralled out of control, resulting in injuries to multiple individuals. Some media reports suggest that women and children were also among those hurt, though authorities have not released an exact count or identities of the injured.

Injuries not life-threatening, police say

A police official confirmed that the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. “None of the injuries are life-threatening,” the official said, adding that some individuals have already been discharged while others remain under observation.

Both groups have traded accusations over how the dispute began, but police maintain that the clash stemmed from a trivial issue that escalated unexpectedly.
