The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday told the Supreme Court that claims and objections regarding the ongoing voter roll revision in Bihar will be entertained even if filed after the September 30 deadline.

The clarification came during the hearing of petitions filed by political leaders from the state seeking an extension of the earlier September 1 deadline to file objections to the draft voter list.

The Supreme Court recorded the EC’s assurance that revisions will remain open and continue till the last date for filing nominations ahead of the elections.

In addition, the court directed the deployment of paralegal volunteers from the Legal Services Authority to assist citizens in filing their claims and objections online, ensuring wider access and ease of process.

This move is expected to provide greater flexibility for voters and political stakeholders in Bihar as the state prepares for the upcoming polls.
