Bengaluru continues to grapple with traffic congestion as the city witnessed the addition of 7.22 lakh new vehicles in the financial year 2024-25. The fresh registrations include 4.68 lakh two-wheelers and 1.45 lakh cars, contributing significantly to the already strained urban infrastructure.
The city now accounts for over 1.23 crore registered vehicles, marking a 6.5% increase from 1.16 crore in 2023-24. Notably, more than 50% of all cars registered in Karnataka are concentrated in Bengaluru, underscoring the city’s vehicle density and urban sprawl.
Vehicle Growth Over the Years:
- 2020-21: 1.00 crore
- 2021-22: 1.04 crore
- 2022-23: 1.09 crore
- 2023-24: 1.16 crore
- 2024-25: 1.23 crore
On average, over 60,000 vehicles were added to Bengaluru’s roads each month during the last fiscal year, further stressing the city’s limited road capacity and prompting renewed calls for better public transport systems and urban mobility planning.
With no signs of slowing growth, the city’s civic and traffic authorities are under increasing pressure to manage the growing burden on Bengaluru’s roads and infrastructure.
