New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced that he has switched to Zoho Mail, an Indian-made email service developed by Zoho Corporation. The announcement, made via social media, reflects the government’s continued emphasis on promoting swadeshi (indigenous) digital platforms at a time when India-US trade relations face renewed tariff tensions.
“Hello everyone, I have switched to Zoho Mail. Kindly note the change in my email address. My new email address is amitshah.bjp@zohomail.in. For future correspondence via mail, kindly use this address,” Shah posted on X (formerly Twitter).
What caught users’ attention was not just the shift to an Indian platform but the tone of Shah’s post. He ended his message with —
“Thank you for your kind attention to this matter,”
— a phrasing strikingly similar to Donald Trump’s characteristic sign-offs on Truth Social and during his presidential announcements.
The move was quickly noticed by social media users, with many praising the Home Minister’s switch to a homegrown platform and others drawing humorous comparisons to Trump’s communication style.
Zoho Mail, part of the Chennai-based Zoho suite, is often seen as India’s answer to Gmail and Microsoft Outlook. The company, led by Sridhar Vembu, has been a vocal advocate of data privacy, digital sovereignty, and self-reliant software infrastructure — aligning well with the Indian government’s Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) vision.
The adoption of Zoho by one of the country’s top constitutional authorities is likely to boost public confidence in domestic tech solutions, marking a symbolic endorsement of Indian innovation in the enterprise software space.
