Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Traffic Police have announced the temporary closure of a stretch of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) service road for a period of 45 days, beginning October 6, to facilitate ongoing Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) construction activities.

According to the official advisory, the closure applies to the section between the 9th Main Road Junction and the 5th Main Road Junction, where metro station construction is currently underway. The decision aims to ensure safety and enable uninterrupted progress on the infrastructure project.

🚗 Traffic Diversion and Alternate Routes

To minimize congestion, motorists traveling from Ibblur towards Silk Board Junction have been advised to use alternate routes.

Authorities have suggested two key diversions:

  1. Route 1: Use the 14th Main Road flyover, continue along the main carriageway, and proceed directly to the 5th Main Road Junction.
  2. Route 2: Divert through the internal roads of HSR Layout to reach Silk Board or Hosur Main Road.

Traffic officials have urged commuters to cooperate with authorities and adhere to the diversion plan during this 45-day period to avoid major slowdowns and bottlenecks on ORR and connecting roads.

“We request all motorists to follow the advisories, plan their travel accordingly, and avoid last-minute detours,” a senior traffic officer said.

🚦 New Signal Synchronisation System in Central Bengaluru

In a separate development aimed at easing congestion across the city, Bengaluru Traffic Police have introduced a signal synchronisation initiative to improve the flow of traffic during non-peak hours.

Anoop A. Shetty, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic West Division), demonstrated the system in a video shared on X (formerly Twitter). The synchronised signal plan covers key junctions, including:

  • JC Road (Townhall Junction)
  • NR Junction
  • PS Junction
  • Police Corner Junction

According to Shetty, the new system allows motorists to experience multiple green lights in sequence while traveling at regulated speeds, effectively reducing stoppage time and easing congestion.

He called it “a step towards intelligent traffic management,” adding that such initiatives would be expanded across other major corridors in the city.

🏗️ Impact on Commuters

With metro expansion work and traffic optimisation measures happening simultaneously, commuters in Bengaluru’s southern and central zones are likely to face short-term disruptions but could expect smoother flow in the long run.

Authorities continue to appeal to citizens to stay updated via official Bengaluru Traffic Police channels for real-time advisories and route changes.
