Facing consistently low student interest, Bangalore University (BU) has announced the closure of select postgraduate (PG) programs that have recorded fewer than 10 admissions for the academic year. The decision was taken during a recent Syndicate meeting, aiming to streamline academic operations and resource allocation.

The affected PG courses include Molecular Biology, Kannada, and another underperforming program, all of which have struggled with admissions over the past few years. University officials indicated that continuing such programs with minimal student strength is not feasible in terms of faculty resources and operational costs.

A BU spokesperson noted that the decision aligns with the university’s broader effort to revise its course offerings in response to student demand and employability trends. The university is expected to evaluate other programs showing similar patterns and may take further steps to revamp its postgraduate curriculum.

Students already enrolled in the discontinued programs will be allowed to complete their studies without disruption, but no new admissions will be taken going forward.
