Batting maestro Virat Kohli has etched his name in history by becoming the first cricketer to participate in all 18 seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) since the tournament’s inception in 2008, Kohli remains the only player in IPL history to play for a single franchise throughout his career.
On Saturday (March 22, 2025), Kohli achieved this milestone while opening for RCB in their IPL 2025 opener against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The match also marks another significant achievement—his 400th T20 appearance, making him the third Indian to reach this landmark.
As the IPL’s all-time leading run scorer, Kohli will be aiming to make a strong impact against the defending champions. With 962 runs in 34 matches against KKR, he is just 38 runs away from becoming the third player to score 1,000 IPL runs against the Kolkata-based side.
Currently, the record for the most IPL runs against KKR is held by former Australian opener David Warner, who has amassed 1,093 runs in 28 matches. He is followed by Mumbai Indians’ Rohit Sharma, who has 1,070 runs in 34 matches against the franchise.
Furthermore, Kohli is on the verge of another major milestone—needing 114 runs to reach 13,000 runs in T20 cricket. If he achieves this feat, he will join an elite club that includes Chris Gayle (14,562), Alex Hales (13,610), Shoaib Malik (13,537), and Kieron Pollard (13,537).
With multiple records in sight, Kohli’s performance in IPL 2025 will be closely watched as he continues to add to his legendary status.
