The second phase of the Parliament Budget Session began on Monday (March 10, 2025) with heated debates and disruptions, particularly over allegations of Hindi language imposition. In the Lok Sabha, tensions escalated after DMK members staged protests in response to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s remarks, accusing the Tamil Nadu government of being “dishonest” about implementing the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme.

Responding to a query on the PM SHRI scheme, Pradhan alleged that the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government had reversed its stance on implementing the centrally-sponsored initiative, which aims to enhance schools managed by central, state, or local bodies. He stated, “They are dishonest and ruining the future of Tamil Nadu’s students. This is pure politics.”

The disruption led to a 30-minute adjournment in the Lok Sabha, which was later extended until 2 p.m. When proceedings resumed, the Lower House proceeded with discussions on the Bill of Ladings Bill, 2024.

Meanwhile, in the Rajya Sabha, the focus shifted to the Railway (Amendment) Bill, 2024, with Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw addressing key concerns.

With crucial bills on the agenda, including the Waqf Amendment Bill and the Manipur budget, the session is expected to witness intense debates. Home Minister Amit Shah is also set to move a statutory resolution seeking Parliament’s approval for the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur.

As the opposition gears up to challenge the government on issues such as alleged electoral roll manipulation, Manipur’s ongoing unrest, and India’s diplomatic stance on the Trump administration, the coming days could see an EPIC parliamentary showdown.
