Karnataka will not observe a holiday tomorrow, June 6, 2025, despite widespread public demand following Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) maiden IPL title win. The team’s victory after 18 years sparked celebrations across the state, prompting calls on social media for a government holiday to allow citizens to revel in the historic achievement.
However, June 4 and 5 remained regular working days for government employees, private sector workers, schools, colleges, and banks. Now, residents are hoping for a holiday on June 6 to extend the weekend celebrations, but the Karnataka government has no plans to declare a day off on Friday.
The state is still recovering from a tragic stampede near M Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives, and political tensions remain high as the opposition BJP criticizes the Siddaramaiah-led government. These factors contribute to the government’s decision against a holiday on June 6, with no official announcement made so far.
Regarding Eid-ul-Adha (Bakrid), the festival falls on June 6 or June 7 depending on regional moon sightings. In Karnataka, Eid celebrations are scheduled for June 7 (Saturday). Consequently, schools, colleges, government offices, and banks will be closed on that day to mark the festival.
In summary, all institutions and offices in Karnataka will operate normally on June 6 but will observe a holiday on June 7 in honor of Eid-ul-Adha.
