Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Telangana, predicting thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms along with isolated heavy rainfall across South Peninsular India from April 2nd to April 6th. Kerala and Tamil Nadu are expected to experience continuous heavy downpours until April 6th.

Weather Systems at Play

According to IMD, multiple weather systems are influencing the region’s weather patterns:

  • Cyclonic Circulations: An upper air cyclonic circulation is present over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, with a trough extending towards southeast Madhya Pradesh. Another circulation is observed over southwest Madhya Pradesh in the lower tropospheric levels.
  • Easterly Influence: A trough in easterlies extends from Lakshadweep to Konkan, further intensifying weather conditions.

Expected Weather Conditions

Due to these weather patterns and the confluence of moist winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, the IMD forecasts:

  • Rain & Thunderstorms: Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) over South Peninsular India from April 2nd to 6th. Central India, Maharashtra, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha will see similar conditions from April 2nd to 4th.
  • Hailstorm Warning:
    • April 2nd: Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada
    • April 2nd & 3rd: Vidarbha, North Interior Karnataka
    • April 3rd: West Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, South Interior Karnataka

Residents are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions against severe weather conditions.
