Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in eight districts across Kerala today as heavy monsoon showers continue to lash the state. The affected districts include Idukki, Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, and Kasaragod.
In light of the IMD warning and ongoing severe weather conditions, authorities have declared a holiday for all educational institutions in three districts — Kozhikode, Kannur, and Wayanad — on Friday (May 31, 2025). The decision was taken to ensure student safety as many areas have reported waterlogging and travel disruptions.
Heavy downpours have led to delays in several train services and increased the risk of landslides, especially in hilly terrains. The state disaster management authority has urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay alert to local advisories.
Rescue teams are on standby, and control rooms have been activated in all high-alert districts. The IMD has also warned of continued rainfall over the next 48 hours, which could further impact normal life.
Citizens are advised to monitor updates from local authorities and take all necessary precautions during this extreme weather phase.
