BENGALURU – A senior ICICI Bank employee, Vivek Samdarshi, allegedly died by suicide in Bengaluru, with his family blaming workplace harassment and extreme work pressure for his tragic death.
Vivek, who served as the Regional Head of Sales at ICICI Bank for over five years, had reportedly been struggling with intense professional stress. His elder brother, Vikash Samdarshi, filed a complaint at Thalaghattapura Police Station, accusing senior officials of abetting the suicide. The complaint specifically named Raghu Kumar, Regional Head of the ICICI Home Loan Department, and John Joseph, Zonal Head, for allegedly subjecting Vivek to persistent humiliation and pressure.
According to Vikash, Vivek had confided in his family about being frequently berated at work. He alleged that Raghu Kumar once told Vivek, “If you can’t perform, you should die,” while John Joseph reportedly supported this toxic work culture instead of addressing his concerns.
The tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of March 7, 2025, when Vikash received a distressing call at 3 am about his brother’s condition. Despite medical intervention, Vivek succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 11:30 pm at DHEE Hospital.
Authorities have registered a case and launched an investigation into the allegations. ICICI Bank has yet to release an official statement on the matter.
This incident follows a similar case in Pune, where 26-year-old Ernst & Young employee Anna Sebastian Perayil allegedly died due to excessive workload. Her mother had blamed workplace stress for her untimely death, prompting the company to issue a statement expressing grief and vowing to improve employee well-being.
