BENGALURU – Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) has emerged as IndiGo Airlines’ (6E) second-largest hub in India, connecting 67 domestic destinations and strengthening its international presence.

Expanding Global Reach

IndiGo currently operates flights to 13 international destinations from Bengaluru, including major hubs in the Middle East (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Jeddah), Southeast Asia (Bangkok, Phuket, Langkawi, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore), South Asia (Colombo), island destinations (Male, Mauritius), and Indonesia (Denpasar-Bali). With over 200 daily departures, the airline plays a key role in BLR Airport’s growing prominence.

IndiGo’s strategic codeshare agreements with global airlines like Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, KLM, Malaysia Airlines, Air France, Qatar Airways, Japan Airlines, and Qantas further enhance Bengaluru’s connectivity to major cities such as London, Amsterdam, Paris, Doha, Tokyo, Sydney, and Kuala Lumpur.

Facing Competition While Maintaining Dominance

Despite rising competition, IndiGo continues to be the largest operator at Bengaluru Airport, commanding a 53% capacity share with over 12.5 million seats. However, this marks a decline from its previous dominance of over 60%. The drop is attributed to the rapid expansion of Akasa Air and Air India Express, both of which have established Bengaluru as a key hub.

Currently, IndiGo operates 102 weekly international flights from BLR, offering nearly 20,000 one-way seats. The airline handles around 15 daily international flights, contributing to 29 air traffic movements.

As Kempegowda International Airport solidifies its position as India’s third busiest airport, IndiGo remains committed to growth, leveraging its vast domestic and international network while adapting to increasing competition in the aviation sector.
