As the Winter Session of Parliament kicked off on Monday, a major political confrontation erupted with Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “hijacking” Parliament and avoiding accountability on crucial national issues.

Sharing a sharp post on X, Gogoi wrote,
“Prime Minister Modi has hijacked the Parliament of India. The Prime Minister does not want to be held accountable to any major issues raised by political parties.”

He alleged that opposition leaders requested a debate on the Indian election system, but the BJP-led government refused to include it in the parliamentary agenda.

Opposition Says Govt Only Wants to Pass Bills, Not Allow Debate

Ahead of the session, Gogoi told ANI that the Congress is willing to support all government bills, but the Centre appears unwilling to include even a single opposition issue for discussion.

Gogoi said,
“The government only wants to pass their bills and has no space to accommodate issues raised by the opposition. That is not how parliamentary democracy functions.”

He added that while opposition parties are cooperating, the government “does not walk the talk” on allowing discussions.

Gogoi has also submitted an adjournment motion in Lok Sabha seeking a debate on electoral roll vulnerabilities, calling it a matter of “grave national concern.”

Priyanka Gandhi Joins Attack

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra echoed Gogoi’s criticism, alleging that the Modi government wants “no discussion on anything”.

She questioned how Parliament could function if the government refuses debates on issues like:

  • SIR (Special Intensive Revision)
  • Election reforms
  • Electoral vulnerabilities
  • Public grievances

Priyanka further criticised the PM for his recent remarks encouraging people to “enjoy the weather,” saying Delhi is battling severe conditions and rising public concerns.

She said,
“The PM should peek outside and see what is happening in the country.”

PM Modi’s Counterattack

Ahead of the session, Prime Minister Modi had taken a swipe at the Opposition, saying:

“Whoever wants to do drama can do it. Parliament should focus on delivery, not drama… Policy, not slogans.”

This comment triggered a strong reaction from Congress leaders.
