A large-scale scam using the name of former US President Donald Trump has come to light in Karnataka, where more than 150 people have collectively lost over ₹1 crore to fraudsters running a fake investment scheme.

The victims, hailing from different districts across the state, have filed complaints with the police, alleging they were promised lucrative returns through what was claimed to be a Trump-endorsed foreign investment platform. The fraudsters allegedly used fake websites, social media ads, and WhatsApp messages to lure investors into parting with their money.

According to preliminary investigations, the scammers used Trump’s name and photos to build credibility and convince victims that the investment was connected to a global initiative backed by the former US president.

Authorities believe the fraud was digitally orchestrated, with most communications and transactions happening online. Police are now trying to trace the IP addresses and digital payment routes used in the scam.

“We have registered multiple cases and have begun gathering evidence from victims, including screenshots, transaction details, and WhatsApp messages,” a senior police officer from Haveri district confirmed. Officials are also coordinating with cybercrime experts to track down the perpetrators, who may be operating from outside India.

Victims have urged authorities to take swift action and recover their money, warning others to remain cautious of any schemes claiming foreign endorsements or unusually high returns.

The incident serves as a strong reminder to verify the legitimacy of online investment opportunities—especially those invoking names of global political figures.
