In a major security lapse, top national security officials from former U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, accidentally shared details of upcoming military strikes in Yemen in a group chat that included The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief.

According to a report published by The Atlantic on Monday (March 24, 2025), the classified war plans were sent via a secure messaging app but ended up in the hands of an unintended recipient. The National Security Council later confirmed that the text exchange “appears to be authentic.”

Initially, Trump told reporters he was unaware of the breach, only learning about it 2.5 hours after the story broke. However, he later appeared to downplay the incident, making light of the situation.

The accidental disclosure has raised concerns about security protocols and the handling of classified information within Trump’s team.
