Mahua Moitra and Pinaki Misra Tie the Knot in Germany: Photos Hint at Secret Wedding
In a surprising development, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Pinaki Misra are reported to have gotten married in a private ceremony in Germany on May 3, according to a report by The Telegraph.
Photographs accessed by the publication show the duo smiling and holding hands, with Moitra seen wearing traditional gold jewellery. However, neither Moitra nor Misra—nor their respective political parties—have confirmed the marriage so far.
A Look at Their Backgrounds
🔹 Mahua Moitra
Born on October 12, 1974, in Assam, Moitra started her professional journey as an investment banker before switching to politics. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Mathematics from Mount Holyoke College, USA, with Magna Cum Laude honors.
Moitra joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in 2010 and won her first election in 2019 from the Karimpur assembly seat in West Bengal. However, in 2023, she was expelled from the Lok Sabha following a parliamentary ethics probe related to a “cash-for-query” controversy involving alleged bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani.
Her personal life has also seen public attention. She was previously married to Danish financier Lars Brorson, and later reportedly dated advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, a relationship that ended bitterly.
🔹 Pinaki Misra
Born on October 23, 1959, in Puri, Odisha, Misra holds a BA in History from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and a law degree from Delhi University.
Originally elected to the Lok Sabha in 1996 as a Congress candidate, Misra joined BJD and secured victories in 2009, 2014, and 2019 from the Puri constituency. He has served on prominent parliamentary panels including the Standing Committee on Finance, Business Advisory Committee, and Defence and Civil Aviation ministries’ consultative committees.
If officially confirmed, this cross-party union marks a rare personal alliance between prominent politicians from West Bengal and Odisha.
