Is the OTT release of Thudarum delayed? That’s the question fans have been asking as Mohanlal’s critically acclaimed Malayalam film continues to perform well in theatres. Initially expected to release on streaming platforms by May 23 or May 30, rumours had recently suggested a possible delay until mid-June due to its strong box office run.

However, trusted sources close to the production have clarified that there is no official postponement, and Thudarum is most likely to debut on OTT next week or by the end of May.

The digital rights for the film have been acquired by JioCinema, not Amazon Prime Video as some reports mistakenly claimed. While Amazon did pick up the rights for Empuraan (Lucifer’s sequel) for a reported ₹60 crore, Jio is said to have paid a significantly smaller sum for Thudarum.

Directed by Tharun Moorthy and released on April 25, the movie has become one of the biggest hits of the year. It earned ₹5.25 crore on day one and went on to collect ₹51.4 crore in its first week. Its second-week earnings remained solid at ₹35.35 crore, bringing the two-week total close to ₹87 crore. In the third week, it added another ₹20.8 crore, pushing the film’s Indian net earnings to ₹108.16 crore, with a gross of nearly ₹128 crore.

Thudarum stars Shobana opposite Mohanlal, along with Prakash Varma, Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Binu Pappu, Irshad Ali, Aarsha Chandini Baiju, Thomas Mathew, Sangeeth Prathap, and Krishna Prabha in key roles. The film features music by Jakes Bejoy, cinematography by Shaji Kumar, and editing by Nishadh Yusuf.

As fans await the OTT launch, it seems likely that the film will drop on JioCinema by the last week of May — keeping the buzz alive for those who missed it in theatres.
