Mohanlal has proven once again that all it takes is one strong film to bounce back. After a string of underwhelming releases, his latest venture Thudarum, directed by Tharun Moorthy, has not only won over critics and audiences but is also turning out to be a commercial success.
The revenge thriller passed the crucial Monday test with flying colours, registering better numbers than it did on its opening day. According to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, Thudarum earned Rs 7 crore nett in India on Monday, Day 4 of its release. This marks a notable 33% increase compared to its opening day collection of Rs 5.25 crore, despite a 33.3% drop from Sunday’s Rs 10.5 crore haul.
With this, the domestic collection of the film now stands at Rs 31.35 crore. The makers also revealed that Thudarum grossed over Rs 69 crore worldwide within the first three days, signalling a solid global run.
Comparisons have already begun with Mohanlal’s earlier outing L2: Empuraan, which had a Monday collection of Rs 11.15 crore. While that film went on to become Malayalam cinema’s highest-grosser, many believe Thudarum could potentially surpass its theatrical performance if the momentum continues.
The film showed impressive hold at the box office on a weekday, with a 53.40% occupancy rate across the Malayalam market. Morning shows began with 40.15% occupancy, which climbed steadily through the day—afternoon shows saw 50.50%, while evening and night shows surged to 60.92% and 62.01%, respectively.
As per local tracker What The Fuss, Thudarum earned Rs 25.91 crore in Kerala alone from 7,138 shows, drawing over 16.3 lakh admissions and averaging an 84.50% occupancy rate over four days.
Mohanlal’s Thudarum is not just a return to form—it may very well be on its way to becoming another all-time hit.
