The Supreme Court of India has issued a notice in response to a plea challenging the award of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project to Adani Properties Pvt Ltd. The petitioner, SecLink Technologies Corporation (STC), a Dubai-based firm, alleges that it was unfairly excluded from the bidding process despite offering a higher bid of ₹8,640 crore, which is approximately 20% more than Adani’s ₹5,069 crore bid.
The Dharavi Redevelopment Project aims to transform one of Asia’s largest slums in Mumbai into a modern urban space. In December 2024, the Bombay High Court upheld the Maharashtra government’s decision to award the project to Adani, dismissing STC’s challenges. However, the Supreme Court has now agreed to review this decision.
While the Supreme Court has issued notices to the Maharashtra government and Adani Group, it has declined to immediately halt the ongoing construction work. Adani has reportedly employed over 2,000 workers and initiated various construction activities. The Court has directed that all financial transactions related to the project be routed through a designated escrow account, ensuring transparency.
The case is scheduled for further hearing in May 2025, during which the Supreme Court will examine STC’s latest bid offer and other related matters.
