Saudi Arabia is on the verge of making architectural history as construction of the Jeddah Tower, also known as the Jeddah Economic Company (JEC) Tower, accelerates in the port city of Jeddah. This ambitious skyscraper, when completed, will stand taller than Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa, currently the tallest structure on Earth.
A cornerstone of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 initiative, the Jeddah Tower aims to serve as a global symbol of economic transformation, innovation, and urban ambition. The project is being spearheaded by Saudi Prince Al Waleed bin Talal Al Saud, and its design comes from the globally renowned architecture firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill—Adrian Smith having previously designed the Burj Khalifa itself.
The Jeddah Tower will rise to an astonishing height of over 1,000 meters (3,280 feet), dwarfing the Burj Khalifa’s 828 meters (2,716 feet). If completed as scheduled by 2028, it will not only claim the title of the world’s tallest building but also establish a new benchmark in engineering and design.
Construction is progressing steadily, with engineers currently capable of pumping concrete up to 2,624 feet—a critical milestone. Efforts are underway to push beyond that limit as the tower continues to rise. Technological innovations and advanced construction techniques are central to overcoming the logistical and structural challenges of such a mega-build.
Beyond its record-breaking height, the Jeddah Tower is envisioned as a vertical city. With 157 floors, the tower will house 59 elevators, the world’s highest observation deck, luxurious residential apartments, a five-star hotel, corporate offices, and retail spaces. It is designed to become a central hub for business, tourism, and culture in the region.
Another notable feature is the integration of smart technologies and sustainable systems. Developers have emphasized eco-conscious construction practices and energy-efficient operations, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s growing commitment to environmental responsibility within urban development.
The project is part of a broader strategy to transform Jeddah into a world-class metropolis, attracting global investment, tourism, and talent. Once completed, the Jeddah Tower will not only reshape the city’s skyline but also symbolize the Kingdom’s aspirations to diversify its economy and assert its presence on the world stage.
Though previous attempts at record-breaking skyscrapers have stalled globally—especially in China and other parts of the Gulf—the momentum behind the Jeddah Tower has picked up significantly in 2025. With dedicated resources, advanced planning, and political will, the dream of building the world’s tallest structure is edging closer to reality.
