Rajnath Singh at SCO Summit: “Peace and Prosperity Cannot Co-Exist With Terrorism”
At the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ Meeting held in Qingdao, China, on Thursday, Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the urgent need for collective action against terrorism and weapons proliferation. He underscored that true peace and prosperity are incompatible with the continued existence of terrorism and the threat posed by non-state actors.
Upon his arrival at the summit venue, Singh was received warmly by Chinese Defence Minister Admiral Dong Jun. Addressing the gathering, Singh identified peace, security, and a trust deficit as the foremost challenges facing the region today.
He strongly stated, “Peace and prosperity cannot co-exist with terrorism and the proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs) in the hands of non-state actors and terror groups.” Singh further urged member nations to act decisively and collaboratively to tackle these pressing threats, asserting that regional safety and collective security demand united efforts.
The SCO summit serves as a strategic platform for its member countries to discuss regional stability, counter-terrorism measures, and broader defence cooperation.
