Actor Prateik Babbar has officially changed his name to Prateik Smita Patil, paying tribute to his late mother, legendary actress Smita Patil. The decision signifies his deep emotional connection with his mother’s legacy while distancing himself from his father, veteran actor Raj Babbar.
In an interview with The Times of India, Prateik shared that the change is deeply personal and not influenced by career considerations. He stated, “I’m just thinking about what makes my soul feel better and what makes my heart smile. I need to be wholly and solely associated with my mother, her name, and her legacy. I don’t think any other name needs to taint that legacy.”
Newlywed Prateik and his wife Priya Banerjee chose not to elaborate on his relationship with his father or the Babbar family’s absence from his life. Priya defended their silence, stating, “People can look up past articles to understand the situation instead of making reckless comments. If Prateik and I choose to stay quiet, it’s out of respect and dignity. We’re happy, and that’s what matters.”
She further clarified that Raj Babbar was never part of Prateik’s upbringing, questioning why concerns about their relationship were surfacing now after 30 years.
For Prateik, embracing his mother’s name marks the start of a new chapter—one that honors Smita Patil’s extraordinary legacy.
