Under Shubman Gill’s captaincy, Indian cricket is set to enter a new era as the Test series against England commences at Headingley on June 20. This series marks India’s first since the high-profile retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The 25-year-old Gill was subsequently named India’s Test captain, a role that comes with significant responsibility.

“It was overwhelming to hear about the opportunity to captain the Test team. It’s a big responsibility, and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead,” Gill said ahead of his departure to England.

With Kohli’s exit, speculation has risen over India’s batting order. Gill clarified that the final decisions will be made after the upcoming intra-squad match scheduled for June 13, followed by a 10-day training camp in London.

“We haven’t finalized the batting order yet. We still have some time, and with the intra-squad game and camp in London, we’ll decide once we’re there,” he added.

Gill’s leadership and team decisions will be closely watched as India embarks on this significant chapter in its cricketing journey.
