Bengaluru: Senior IPS officer Seemanth Kumar Singh has been appointed as the new Bengaluru Police Commissioner with immediate effect, according to an official notification issued on Thursday.

His appointment follows the suspension of the former Commissioner, B Dayananda, by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Dayananda was suspended for dereliction of duty in connection with the tragic stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, which resulted in 11 deaths and left over 50 injured.

The notification states, “Seemanth Kumar Singh, IPS (KN: 1996), Additional Director General of Police, Bengaluru Metropolitan Task Force, Bengaluru, is transferred with immediate effect and posted until further orders as Additional Director General of Police & Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru City, Bengaluru.”

Seemanth Kumar Singh’s takeover aims to restore order and confidence in the Bengaluru police force amid ongoing investigations and public scrutiny following the incident.
