Elon Musk’s Starlink Set to Launch in India: Price, Benefits, and What You Should Know

Elon Musk’s Starlink, along with satellite internet providers such as Bharti Group-backed Eutelsat OneWeb, Reliance Jio’s SES partnership, and Globalstar, is gearing up to launch services in India soon. While official pricing details remain unconfirmed, industry reports provide insight into what users might expect to pay for high-speed satellite internet access.

According to analysts cited by The Economic Times, Starlink could offer unlimited data plans in India at promotional rates below $10 per month (approximately Rs 840). This competitive pricing aims to capture the attention of India’s vast telecom market — the world’s second largest.

Despite significant spectrum and licensing expenses, satellite internet providers plan to keep initial prices affordable to rapidly build a large subscriber base. With targets reaching up to 10 million users in the medium to long term, companies hope to benefit from economies of scale to offset infrastructure costs.

Ashwinder Sethi, Partner at global TMT consultancy Analysys Mason, explained, “The strategy is to price services affordably—below $10—to encourage adoption and distribute fixed costs across a broader customer base.”

Starlink’s satellite internet promises several benefits including high-speed connectivity in remote and underserved areas, low latency, and consistent performance unaffected by terrestrial network issues, potentially revolutionizing internet access across India.
