Football legend David Beckham has officially become Sir David Beckham after being knighted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, marking what he described as the “proudest moment” of his life.

The 50-year-old former England captain received the prestigious honour for his services to football, British society, and extensive charity work. Accompanied by his wife Victoria Beckham and his parents Ted and Sandra Beckham, Beckham attended the ceremony in a bespoke grey three-piece suit designed by Victoria herself.

Beckham’s Statement: “My Proudest Moment”

Speaking after the ceremony, Beckham said the knighthood was more meaningful than any of his career accolades.

“It’s quite a moment for a boy from the East End of London to be here at Windsor Castle, being honoured by His Majesty the King. This is, without doubt, my proudest moment,” Beckham said.

He added that while he has celebrated numerous milestones in his career, including captaining England and winning major football titles, this recognition stands above all because of its connection to both sport and philanthropy.

“It’s not just about football — it’s about the charitable work I’ve been passionate about. I do it because I love making a difference, and to be honoured for that means so much more,” he said.

A Storied Career in Football

Beckham made his Manchester United debut in 1992 at age 17, becoming one of the most influential English footballers of his generation. During his time at Old Trafford, he won:

  • 6 Premier League titles
  • 2 FA Cups
  • 1 UEFA Champions League (1999)

He later played for Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain, collecting numerous honours before retiring in 2013.

For England, Beckham earned 115 caps, serving as captain for six years between 2000 and 2006, and remains one of the most recognized figures in world football.

Charitable Legacy and Family Pride

Beyond football, Beckham has worked with global charities including UNICEF, focusing on children’s welfare, education, and sports development.

He said the knighthood recognizes not only his achievements on the field but also his philanthropic contributions.

“It’s nice to have six Premier League titles and other medals, but this will take pride of place,” Beckham remarked.

Asked about his interaction with King Charles, Beckham smiled and said,

“He was quite impressed with my suit.”

He also admitted to being a lifelong admirer of the monarchy, saying receiving this honour was “beyond anything I ever imagined.”
