BENGALURU: A security guard has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife and attempting to pass it off as a suicide in Tavarekere, BTM Layout I Stage. The crime came to light after an autopsy report confirmed that the victim, Shilpa, was strangled to death.

According to a Times of India report, Shilpa worked as a staff nurse at a private hospital, while her husband, Chikka Mutturaju, employed as a security guard at a hospital in Koramangala, is accused of committing the crime. The couple, originally from Kanakapura in Ramanagara district, had been married for 12 years and shared an 11-year-old daughter who lived with her grandmother.

Domestic Dispute Turns Deadly

Investigations revealed that Mutturaju frequently suspected Shilpa of infidelity, leading to constant arguments. On Thursday, a heated confrontation took a tragic turn when Mutturaju slapped Shilpa, causing her to collapse and bleed from her nose. He then allegedly strangled her to death and staged the scene by hanging her body from the ceiling with her sari to make it look like suicide.

Failed Cover-Up and Arrest

After the incident, Mutturaju called Shilpa’s mother, claiming she had died by suicide. However, when she arrived at the house around 5 PM, he was nowhere to be found. The house owner, suspecting foul play, alerted the police. Upon examining the scene, officers noticed discrepancies and suspected murder.

A forensic examination and autopsy later confirmed strangulation. Police tracked Mutturaju to his workplace, where he was found intoxicated. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the crime.

Authorities have booked him for murder, and further investigation is ongoing.
