Mohanlal’s Box Office Reign Continues as Thudaram Nears ₹100 Crore Landmark in Kerala

Following the massive success of Empuraan, Malayalam cinema’s megastar Mohanlal is back at the top with yet another box office juggernaut — Thudaram. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Tharun Moorthy, the crime thriller is drawing massive crowds and is now on course to achieve the unprecedented feat of grossing ₹100 crore solely in Kerala.

So far, Thudaram has grossed over ₹30 crore in the state, with weekday occupancies staying remarkably high — a sign of strong word-of-mouth and audience engagement. With Labour Day (May 1) expected to boost collections further, industry insiders predict that the film may soon become the first ever Malayalam film to cross ₹100 crore in Kerala alone.

This milestone was previously expected from Empuraan, but the political action film couldn’t reach the mark due to mixed reviews. In contrast, Thudaram has garnered glowing reception, especially for its gripping narrative and performances.

The film is set in the emotional thriller territory similar to Drishyam and features Shobana playing Mohanlal’s wife, reuniting the iconic duo after decades. With even new releases like Retro failing to make a dent in its momentum, Thudaram continues to dominate screens across the state.

All signs now point to a historic box office record, one that could redefine benchmarks for Malayalam cinema in its home state.
